As simple as it may seem, lehengas can give cold feet to the best of us. Be it the volume, the heavy embroidery or just the thought of taking care of your dupatta, here are some do’s and don’ts that are sure to make your lehenga moments a lot more effortless!
Do:
1. Invest In Simpler Styles
Lehengas are most often perceived as heavy, high-maintenance or just difficult to manage. If that’s something stopping you from sporting this rather classic Indian silhouette, investing in simpler lehengas may be more favourable for you. If you feel more comfortable in a plain lehenga skirt, there are many ways to style them to look more celebratory with a heavier blouse, an embellished or a contrast jacket and even a statement dupatta.

2. Try Your Lehenga Before Buying
Lehengas have the tendency to stay in your wardrobe for years on end or even decades- if passed down generations. For such a purchase, it’s only sensible to try it on to see how you feel and look in the outfit before taking the plunge. It’s also important to try it on with the shoes you intend to wear to ensure you get the length right.

3. Experiment With Your Lehenga Outfit
We often see our lehengas with their set blouse and dupattas. But don’t be afraid to mix and match with different blouses, contrast dupattas from other sets or even your anarkali jacket. The easiest way to experiment with your lehenga would be by adding a twist with a different dupatta drape.
Don’t:
1. Just Follow Trends
Try not to buy a lehenga just for an ongoing trend. Not only are trends bound to go in and out of vogue real quick, but they may not be perfect for your personal style in the long run. Instead, consider buying something you know you will use for long.
2. Worry About The Rules
Gone are the days when fashion would be about rules on how to style – be it a classic little black dress on even a lehenga. So wear the outfit the way you like it best- it could be a high waist skirt, a shirt for a blouse or even without a traditional dupatta- as long as you feel good in it!

3. Think Of The Can-Can As A Compulsion
Yes, can-cans are great to add a bit or a lot of volume to your lehenga skirt. But on days when you just don’t want to be hassled with it, don’t be afraid to give your can-can a miss and wear your lehenga as is. You can also make a customised can-can skirt with the amount of volume you are comfortable with and can be worn under multiple lehenga skirts.
