Do you own more fast fashion items than you’d like? You’re not alone! The sustainable fashion movement has made many realise the true damage of our fast fashion habits, making us reconsider some unsustainable clothing choices we’ve made so far. However, getting rid of these unsustainable choices may do even more harm by increasing the pressure on our already overfilled landfills. A better way to be more sustainable is to use what we already have to its most optimal and here’s how you can do that!
Experiment With Versatility
Use your fast fashion buys for as long as you can. This can be your own small way of turning this “fast” purchase into a slow one. Experiment with how you style it by opting for unique yet stylish pairings, making the most of your garment. This especially holds true to basics like t-shirts, denim and trousers.
Mend Or Upcycle

Fast fashion may not always give you the best quality. So try to elongate the life of a damaged piece by mending them at your local tailor or upcycling the piece altogether. By doing this, you’ll not only save the garment from a landfill but also give your garment a new life.

While it is more sustainable to use clothes for longer, it also doesn’t make sense to hold onto an item you definitely won’t use. In this case, it’s a better idea to donate or pass it on to someone who’ll make proper use of your pieces.
Wash Carefully

Even as we continue to use fast fashion pieces to make full use of them, some garments may still continue to have a negative impact on the environment. For example, polyester-based garments tend to release microplastics every time they are washed, in turn causing microplastic pollution in water bodies. You can avoid this by washing these clothes with cold water, air-drying them and using protective mesh bags when tossing them in the washer.
