Fashion and Sustainability: Understanding Luxury Fashion in a Changing World By London College of Fashion
The London College of Fashion’s free course on Fashion and Sustainability spanning over six weeks, is curated as an introduction to fashion sustainability and its overall impact. The topics covered include why sustainability is essential in fashion, contextualising sustainability for a changing world, material dimensions: sourcing for luxury fashion, informed decision making: tools and methods, and creative possibilities and creative realisation in sustainable fashion. The course is aimed at those working in fashion, fashion educators, and anyone with an interest in sustainability in the fashion industry. While this is a paid course, it comes with a certificate once you opt for a $64 upgrade.
Who Made My Clothes? By The University of Exeter
This free online course by the University of Exeter, United Kingdom, is focused on awareness related to the origin of garments. It includes topics like introduction to a variety of garment-making techniques, how to use this knowledge to influence the fashion industry, gaining knowledge and practical skills for thinking about our global economy, and who makes our clothes. The course has been created in collaboration with not-for-profit global movement Fashion Revolution, and takes over three weeks to complete. The course is free and is available to enroller for five weeks, whereas with a $64 upgrade you get a certificate along with unlimited access till it is available on the platform.
Responsible Fashion By Istituto Marangoni
This six-week online course costs £2,700 and is aimed at new or emerging designers. The course focuses on design principles for responsible fashion, alternative design, and production systems. It also teaches participants to design and apply a personal design framework. Overall, the course helps participants learn about new technologies to improve sustainability, as well as values of the past and the natural world that can help improve sustainability in fashion. Along with certification, the course comes with additional workshops and seminars, where applicable and is very comprehensive, with a total duration of 45 hours spanning over six weeks (three days per week).
