Milkaa Kharvas, founded by Ami Panchal during the lockdown, is reviving the traditional sweet dish ’kharvas‘ with a modern twist. Known for its pudding-like texture, kharvas is a pure milk-based dessert that doubles as a health booster. With no chemicals or preservatives, it caters to a wide audience, including fitness enthusiasts seeking protein-rich snacks and those looking to lose weight.
The idea for Milkaa Kharvas was born when Ami, a mother, experimented with the dessert during the pandemic to create a healthier alternative to ice cream for her children. ’I made cookie-sized kharvas pieces, added a toothpick, some chocolate sauce, and served it as healthy ice cream. My kids loved it,’ she recalls. This sparked the journey to innovate with new flavours and improve its handling and delivery, given the product’s short shelf life.
The founder admits there were initial challenges, especially convincing her husband, who questioned the practicality of selling a product with limited shelf life. ’In the worst case scenario, it wouldn’t work, but I had to try,’ she says. Driven by her passion as a mother, she focused more on providing a healthy treat than chasing profits.
Taking advice from a friend, she pursued a marketing course and launched Milkaa Kharvas with fresh branding and packaging. Registering the business on Google helped her reach new customers unfamiliar with kharvas. Today, the dessert is gaining popularity among health-conscious individuals aged 25-40.
With a dream of opening her own outlet, Ami continues to innovate, blending tradition with health to create a unique product that stands out in the market.
