The sound effects, the mystery, the thrill or just the terrifyingly twisted storylines—no matter the reason that draws you to the genre of horror, there are ample options available on OTT to keep you glued to your screens. We’ve combed through the platforms, and brought to you five that you shouldn’t miss.
1. I Am That Pretty Thing That Lives In The House
In this unsettling movie, a reclusive retired horror writer (Paula Prentiss) hires a caretaker (Ruth Wilson) to care for her and her estate located in Massachusetts. Soon, the latter begins to feel uncomfortable, and believes that the house may be haunted. What the writer may not have mentioned to the nurse is that the protagonist of her popular novel, The Lady in the Walls, may not be fictional and might have been killed in the very estate they both live in.
Platform: Netflix
2. The Wailing
In this 150-minute film, a policeman begins to investigate a strange set of events in a small town, but in the process, he discovers what he wasn’t prepared for —an ancient evil. Watch out for the climax of this skillfully shot film. The devastation that ensues will stay with you long after the credits stop rolling.

3. The Babysitter
This film released three years ago, but is one of the most popular choices for movie buffs even today. 12-year-old Cole falls in love with his babysitter, Bee, but little does he know that there is more to her than meets the eye. One night as Cole steps out of bed to see what Bee is up to, he finds out that she and his friends are members of demonic cult. What will happen if they find out that Cole knows their dark secret? Will he ever be able to get rid of them? Although predictable, the execution of the storyline, and the sheer edge-of-the-seat drama ensures you come away, well, horrified. And the best part, there’s a part two to boot!
Platform: Netflix
4. Gerald’s Game
Another one in the list that isn’t a newbie, but continues to pack a punch solely because of the situation it presents. Gerald (Bruce Greenwood), and his wife Jessie (Carla Gugino) are spicing things up in the bedroom as the former handcuffs the latter. Things go downhill when Gerald collapses due to a heart attack and dies right in from of Jessie. Still handcuffed to the bed, Jessie now sees visions. Sounds like something you would watch?
Platform: Netflix
5. Hereditary
The film tells the story of the Grahams who are dealing with the passing away of the family’s matriarch. As a unit, they shy away from revealing their inner turmoil to each other, and the viewers are often subjected to their “eruptions”. As the story progresses, the family begins to unravel secrets about their ancestry. Will they be able to outrun the sinister fate that they seem to have inherited? Watch to find out.
