Women’s participation is gradually increasing in India's expanding real estate market, which is expected to reach $1 trillion by 2030. But according to reports, women only make up 11 to 12 per cent of the workforce at the moment.

To change that, NAREDCO Mahi, the National Real Estate Development Council's (NAREDCO) women's wing, is at work. The Viksit Bharat 2047 vision is the main emphasis of NAREDCO, an independent organisation under the Government of India's Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Women are being empowered to assume important roles in the real estate value chain through NAREDCO Mahi – which includes design, planning, site monitoring, and financing among the positions.

In certain sectors of the industry, women are making their mark. Here's a breakdown:
Architecture: Approximately 20 per cent of architects are female.
Legal, Marketing, Interiors, ESG: In tier-1 cities, women occupy roughly 35 to 40 per cent of positions in legal, marketing, interior design, and ESG.
Advisory firms: In large metro areas, only 15 per cent of advisory businesses are run by women.
PropTech and startups: Because of its adaptability and digital nature, this sector is seeing a rise in women’s participation.

Through the initiative’s outreach and upskilling initiatives, they are actively collaborating with partners to establish inclusive pathways for women. In Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, women are now visible in legal, marketing, and client-facing roles that were once uncharted. According to data from NAREDCO, one in five Indian architects are women. In the same vein, more women than ever before are in charge of real estate advising firms in Tier 1 cities.
The NAREDCO Mahi seeks to upskill unskilled women labourers and encourage their involvement in skilled occupations such as construction design and site engineering by means of their formal training plans, digital certification programs, and labour training exercises.
