When it comes to beauty advice, it always pays to hear what experts have to say. Should you change the way you shampoo your hair post-oiling? Do heatless curls actually last on all hair types? At what temperature should your curling iron be at while you curl your mane? If you’ve always wondered what the right answers are to these haircare and styling questions, you’ve come to the right place. We reached out to Paras Sharma, senior hair artist at Jean-Claude Biguine, Juhu for some expert intel.
Do heatless curls last in all kinds of hair?
“If you have wavy or textured hair, you can try the overnight heatless curl hacks. For fine hair, curls may not last.”
At what temperature would you keep your curling iron while curling virgin and chemically treated hair?
“For virgin hair, I recommend using a heat protectant and then keeping your curling iron at 180 degrees and for chemically treated (coloured) hair, you can go up to 190 or 200 degrees.”
What kind of a brush should you use while blow-drying your hair?
“The rounder the brush, the more voluminous your hair will be so if you are looking to add more movement, look for a bigger brush.”
How to section your hair before styling it?
“If you have thick or coarse hair, take smaller sections of your mane. Begin curling the back sections of your head and then move to the front. To make the process easier, you can use the backend of a regular comb.”
What is the correct way to wash your hair after oiling it?
“You don’t necessarily need to use a sulfate-free shampoo if you’ve oiled your hair. Lather your hair and wait for four to five minutes till the foam dies down and then rinse your hair.”
How do you make your styled hair last?
“Style your hair and finish it off with some setting spray. Tie it in a loose bun on top of your head. You can do this with curled or blow-dried hair and just comb it out in the morning.”
What is the right way to oil your hair?
“First off, make sure you warm up the oil and apply it to your scalp only and not your ends. If you have a lot of hair, use a larger amount of oil and if you have finer hair, use just a little. You do not need to saturate your strands for this treatment to work.”
What is the right way to curl your hair?
“You can take alternate sections and curl them inwards and outwards. After you are done with all the sections, comb it out using a paddle brush using smooth strokes.”
What is the easiest way to tie your hair in a bun?
“Tie your hair in a ponytail and then take smaller sections of your hair and curl them using a curling iron. Turn the section on itself and pin it in place. The result will be a pretty piece-y bun.”
