The beauty of, well, a beauty routine is that it is so unique to each person. Whether it is products or habits (skincare, make-up, haircare, or even overall wellness), we’re always looking for ideas to add a dash of happiness to our day. In times where every single thing and situation feels unpredictable, we have to find our little pockets of peace and joy in our daily routine. The trick though is to adapt these simple activities into habits so you can stick to them, regardless of how overwhelming things get.
It can be anything from a stretching workout that relaxes your muscles to giving yourself a full body massage, these little things make us feel good. And that plays a big role in how your day and week goes. Whether you’re someone who’s a skincare pro or just looking to dip your toes in some beauty-related self-care activities, we’ve listed out something for everyone!
Begin your mornings on a relaxed note
Seriously! None of the ideas on this list will do you any good if you do them in a rush. Give yourself at least two hours before you begin work to really reap the relaxation of these ativities. Gather your thoughts, do a few stretches and get ready to tackle the day.
Turn your shower into a mini spa
Spa-like shower experiences don’t get enough credit. If you love a good shower, here are a few things that can help amp up your experience. Invest in shower bombs which get activated by hot steam and release their essential oils. Alternatively, you can also drip a few drops of relaxing oils on the walls of your shower area to reap similar benefits. Look for body scrubs and shower gels that have notes of orange, lime, lemon, grapefruit, and eucalyptus as these work to up your energy game.
Indulge in your bodycare routine
Take your bodycare routine to the next level with a full-body mask, massage, or dry brushing. You can whip up a clay, honey, and rosewater mask and apply it all over your body and wash it off after 15 minutes. This will help to remove impurities and excess oil from the skin.
If you’re someone who enjoys massages, you can make it a habit to give yourself one every morning. Take an oil that you like (we recommend jojoba for acne-prone skin and coconut oil for normal skin), begin kneading your feet and legs, and then move upwards.
Dry brushing is very similar to massaging your body but this technique involves using a natural bristle brush to gently brush your skin in long strokes towards your heart. Not only does this feel very good, it also exfoliates skin and promotes blood circulation.
Give your tresses some TLC
Let’s be honest, having a good hair day can change your mood for the better. Most of us have a skincare routine in place but when it comes to our mane, we usually draw the line at shampoo and conditioning. To maintain your hair health, we recommend using a mask at least twice a week, and if your scalp and lengths can handle it, oil them too! Look for products that suit your hair type, instead of buying the same one and sharing it with your family (been there, done that!). Like skin, our hair types are different too, but figuring out what works through trial and error really pays off!
Go to bed happy
“What does this have to do with anything?” you might wonder, but research has shown that going to bed content can lead to you sleeping well. And getting a good night’s sleep plays a huge role in your skin health. A 2015 study by Journal of Clinical and Experimental Dermatology (UK) found that sleeping for seven to nine hours a night can leave skin moisturised, and that this helps it heal from the day’s environmental damage efficiently.
