When make-up artists to the stars kick-start a new trend, we take notes. And when these tips come from beauty expert Mario Dedivanovic, aka the king of contouring, you best believe we’re listening. In case you missed it, Dedivanovic was the one responsible for the transformative sculpting technique that reality TV star Kim Kardashian West used to swear by, until he coined a toned-down version of the trend–soft sculpting.
What is soft-sculpting?
As he explains on Instagram, soft-sculpting is wearable on an everyday basis because it is more natural-looking, and overall, the trend is less intimidating to master. This method is more suited for real life and you have to remember to be very light-handed with the products, compared to social media make-up where more tends to be more.
Recreating this soft, glowy look is simple because everything you need is probably in your kit. The motto here is: Use fewer products but use them cleverly.
How to soft sculpt your face:
• After doing your base make-up, use a cream contour product to accentuate your cheekbones. Apply the formula right above the hollows of your cheeks and extend it to the centre of your eye. Bend upwards using tapping motions and remember to not drag your brush as that will just move your foundation and concealer around.
• Next up is blush. Use a creamy, shimmer-free formula that sinks into the skin. Make sure you smile before applying it to create a look that’s more lifted and fresh. Dab the blush on the apples of your cheeks and blend it upwards. Take the leftover product on the brush and apply it on your nose and forehead for a sun-kissed look.
• Take a cream highlighter that is glitter- and shimmer-free and with a very dense brush, tap it on the high points of your cheekbones and nose.
• After all of this is done, take a clean make-up brush and dust your face well. This will prevent your make-up from looking patchy.
