A 2021 survey by smartphone company, Vivo, and Cybermedia Research shows that 74 per cent of Indian parents are afraid that their addiction to smartphones may hurt their relationships with their kids. Smartphone obsession has been on the rise and the decrease in our attention spans is proof.
The study found that even though time spent with kids and family went up by 57 and 49 per cent over the last year, the quality of it has depreciated.
About 66 per cent of parents confessed to being on their phones while spending time with their kids and 74 per cent admitted to losing their cool and getting irritated when they’re on their devices and their children ask them questions.
The study focused on the behavioural impact on children due to excessive use of phones by both kids and their parents. Around 90 per cent of parents said that their children displayed signs of aggression due to extended smartphone usage and that they feel their children lack moral and social behavioural skills.
